** SIGN THE PETITION TO CLOSE DOWN HARLAN - PLEASE SEE BUTTON ON RIGHT HAND SIDE**
"One of the trainers went into a pen and held down a dog with his knee. He was kicking the dog while he held it down to try to subdue it. Then he started punching it and then he held it up by the throat and said to it: ‘So are you going to stop?’” Ex-Harlan Employee, Russell Trigg
Harlan is the last remaining company in Britain breeding beagles for the vivisection industry.
They own two sites – one in Belton, Loughborough and the other at Wyton, Cambridgeshire. They sell dogs (for £1-2k depending on age) to laboratories across the UK and Europe.
In June 2011, I visited Harlan’s Loughborough site and what I saw changed my life forever. And I only saw the outside of this animal prison.
Hidden away in a secluded field, the site is a vision of concrete, security cameras and high, barb wired walls. You hear nothing but the sound of barking from the beagles locked inside.
I discovered that, if they’re lucky, the beagles may be let out for 20 MINUTES a week. Behind closed doors, they have razor blades pressed into their skin to acclimatise them for their brief life, and painful death, in laboratories. Those not sold for experimentation are used as blood donors and have blood regularly drained from them and sold. ‘Non-conforming products’ (i.e. those dogs not meeting lab requirements) or those found surplus to market demand are routinely slaughtered.
Then I read a report by BUAV who went undercover to expose the life of Harlan beagles and discovered what goes on INSIDE the site. You can read about several Harlan exposés here.
Not one day goes by when I do not think of the Harlan beagles. WE MUST NEVER FORGET THEM.
On 26th January 2011, the Secretary of State, the Rt Hon Eric Pickles refused beagle breeders B&K Universal permission to expand their facilities in Grimston, Yorkshire.

I've emailed them this morning, and shared your blog post on Facebook. I have a lot of dog-owning friends on there who I'm sure will be up in arms about this.
Thank you so so much. I can't believe the deadline has come around so quickly, I wish we had more time! Thanks again, you are very kind xxxxx
